Whereabouts in MN, if you don't mind my asking? Some of my family is from there and I spent a lot of time there as a child. Are you in a warm climate? If so, cape mallow should do well for you year-round. I grew 'Elegant Lady' last growing season and it did great - turning into a small shrub and blooming all season - but was killed over the winter.
