Wham, bam, thank you ma’am, and it’s goodbye to spring and hello to summer, or more specifically, weather more typical of mid-July than early June. The dew point has risen steadily all day – it’s currently at 73 F, subtropical – and is continuing to do so, and the temperature has gone from 57 F around sunrise this morning to its current temperature of 87 F and is expected to keep spiking throughout the afternoon. The air has gone nearly still – sometimes there is no wind at all – and the heat index is so far standing at 95 F. Our low tonight is forecast to be over ten degrees F hotter than our high yesterday. The air is choked with the haze of a city: Airborne pollen, pollution, and other things mingle to form a constant veil that will only grow as the days of this heat wave go on. It is like looking at the city through an opaque window.
Lucky for the garden that it got three days of clouds that began with a day’s worth of steady rain and continued with two more days of mingled rain, drizzle, and mist. When I checked early this afternoon, even most of the pots did not yet need to be watered. The rain will help the garden make it through this. And the tropical/subtropical plants should thrive.
I have many pictures I have not uploaded yet from my camera. I will make a post later with some of them.
